Dale Helpingstine's Camaro Minimize
31 Years Young and Good as New!
One Owner 1978 Camaro

On April 21, 1978 I took possession of my new Dark Blue-Green metallic 1978 Camaro Sport Coupe. I was a 20 year old college sophomore, and this was my first new car. As the photo of the window sticker shows, I special ordered this car from Rogers Chevrolet in Rantoul, IL. It is equipped with a 305 cu.in. small block, 4-speed trans, 3.08:1 Posi rear axle, F41 sport suspension, power front disc/rear drum brakes, special gauge package, rear spoiler, sport mirrors, and Camel tan sport cloth covered bucket seats, no radio and no console. The car is still basically stock, with the exception of an Edelbrock Performer intake and 500 cfm carb, and dual exhaust pipes with Z/28 mufflers and tailpipes. It rides on 17”x7” American Torque Thrust II’s on the front and 17”x8” in the rear, and Yokahama Avid V4S 225/50R17 front and H4S 245/45R17 rear. The car was repainted the original color once in 1986, so the paint you see is 23 years old! I have driven the car in four of the past five Hot Rod Power Tours, and I am registered for the 2009 Tour as well. And the car still only has 72,600 miles on it. Future plans include the addition of a slightly hotter cam and headers. Other than that I just plan to keep this car for many years to come and enjoy taking sunny weekend drives. I keep it looking new with parts and suppies from Year One.
