I read that all the BRE Ta's were made using 1977-1981 T/A's so are all the cars getting the 77-78 front grills and rear tail lights?

I just love the concept of making these cars even better with the application of new materials and technology.  I think you've done a great job here - the designer hasnt got carried away and the changes look right and not bolted on.  The matt black looks very nice - I'm glad I havent painted my project yet as this has got me thinking...

Most of the mods are beyond my skills and budget but I wonder what the home mechanic can learn from this project, for example I was interested to hear about mounting the sub frame solid to the shell when I have heard people claim solid mounts or even poly mounts are too harsh and noisey - has this project proved them wrong?

Keith,  great job!  I have always enjoyed these cars.  I now own two ws6 TA's.  I really like the wheels.

Do you guys have them in 17's for stock ws6's?  And with the BRE did you lower it any with the tubular front?

The BRE has an awesome stance.

Mounting the subframe with solid bushings didn't make a huge difference in harshness, but it does help rigidity a great deal. The engine/trans mounts and the front/rear control arm bushings make more of a difference with respect to transmitting vibration and noise into the cabin. Ride and handling is always a compromise, and our goal was to provide the driver with great feedback from the steering, suspension and tires without beating him/her to death. Does it ride like a Cadillac? No. But it's much better than most cars that have the capabilities of this one. Certainly springs and shock packages come into play with respect to overall ride and handling ability, and one of the great things about the Ban II and Ban III level cars is suspension adjustability. The owner has the ability to tailor the ride/handling compromise to suit their particular tastes.

17-inch wheels are available. Check here.

As I mentioned in the earlier post, the adjustability of the Ban II and III cars lets us (or the owner) set ride height to their preference. Coilovers are used front and rear, and are adjustable for ride height and shock response. The key to getting a good stance on these cars was making sure the exhaust system was tucked up as tightly as possible, and ensuring the wheel/tire package had plenty of room. With those things done, we could put the car in the weeds to improve looks and handling without excessive dragging or rubbing.

I Drove the BAN 3 Car!

Kieth & YO Team!

I finally got to drive the BAN 3 car a few weeks ago when we where back in Atlanta for the Braselton Bash.  I was able to take it on a winding road at night without a lot of traffic, so I could get it up to some fun speeds and really feel the car pull through the turns!  There was more than enough power and handling performance in this custom built pro-touring car to impress any enthusiast!  If I could have, it would have went in my trailer and went home with my wife and me, back to Nebraska, but I think Kevin would miss the car to much!

There are so many aspects of the car that are different that it really makes the car unique and a great modern representation of a 77 Body Style Special Edition Trans Am.

While driving the car, it was tough not to want to checkout all the gauges, the buttons that you didnt know what they did, finding a good tune on the touch screen deck and then trying to find the volume to crank it up.  All while trying to keep up Kevin, in front of me, on a winding road, in the dark of the night and a car that you didnt want to let out of the throttle at all.

The leather recaro seats were very comfortable for a 6' 3" guy and the short throw of the trans shifter made it a blast to drive.  Each gear you could feel the torque as you gave it more gas.  The new dash was nicely designed and helped in really setting off the interior at night with the modern white gauges.

Needless to say, I could go on and on with my description, so for now anyone can feel free to call me for a third party opinion of the BRE at anytime  If it helps at all in answering your questions, I plan on having one in my garage and shop real soon!   I will be posting a lot of my personal pictures of the BRE from the Bandit Run and Braselton Bash on my website, along with a detailed review of the car.  I am getting to know it very well, as Trans Ams are my life!

Dave,

Thanks for the kind words. It's always encouraging to hear other people's opinion about our cars. You know how it is when you spend so much time around a particular project, you tend to lose objectivity. We get so caught up in the little details, tunnel-vision really, that often it's difficult to stand back and judge the impact of the car as a whole. I still see the car as a collection of parts, some we're happy with and some that need work!

We're learning a ton about the package with the Ban 3 prototype, and personally I think we're 95% of the way there.

Glad you liked it. I can't wait to get one of the Ban 3 cars to Road Atlanta! We'll really find out how capable it is then...

HEY!!

I BOUGHT A NEW 78 TRANS-AM IT WAS  WRECK! AND I BOUGHT 5 MORE AFTER THAT. BUT TO GET TO MY POINT,

I LIKED MOST OF THE CAR EXCEPT THE FRONT END WITH THE FOG LAMPS DOWN ON THE FRONT BUMBER I THINK THE 78S FRONT END WAS PERFECT THE WAY IT CAME FROM THE FACTORY, BUT I SEE THAT YOU WANT TO PUT YOUR OWN FLAIR ON IT! AND I SEE YOU USED  1980 STYLE FOILERS ON THE FRONT, THERE AGAIN THE 77-78S WERE PERFECT. OVERALL I DID LIKE THE CAR AND WISH I COULD PURCHASE ONE!!  I HAVE HAD 30 CARS IN MY LIFETIME BUT NOT ONE OF THEM MADE ME FEEL LIKE THAT 78 TRANS-AM!!!

ANYWAY GOOD JOB!!! BRINGING IT BACK!!

You are right about that. I have a new 06 Viper Coupe and was seriously thinking about buying one of these until I saw the price. They would sell them like crazy if they were about 1/2 that. I think they will sell more parts than cars. Will have to go with an 08 Viper instead. Most people who are interested in these cars don't have 130g laying around and if they did a Ford GT or Porche would be nice.

If any one comes across a real nice Bandit car send me an email.

Not a trailer Queen. Something close that can be driven every day.

Thanks Jerry

I think they should have built a 40g car also that most people could buy if they wanted one.

The original was only 8g

Thanks Jerry
