Given todays prices with inflation, you'd be hard pressed to do this car, this well, with less than $75K, plus you are probably paying Burt $5K, not to mention that you're getting a near to one-of-kind car.  Add to that, they came up with a good design for appearance and materials, some nice touches, all the sheet metal work, plus a car built by guys who know high performance hot rods, and it adds up quick.  Far north of $100K seems a tad high but not when you consider other car makers out there like Shelby, Roush, Saleen of the Mustang crowd.  They charge $50K to 60K above the cost per car, Shelby sometimes more if he puts his John Han all over the friggin car (which I hate).

Just add up the cost of all these materials, before you start paying people for their work: suspension, brakes, engine, trans, exhaust, fuel, wiring, cooling, accessories, carpet, seats, roll bar, tubs, wheels, tires, custom parts like the gl and dash and console, doors, plus custom front and rear plastic and of course a nice paint job with top end striping.  And you even get to choose from a good collection of power plants, try that at Roush or Shelby!

Having said all that, I'll be extremely surprised if they got this platform to perform well by today's standards.  I had a 78 T/A 6.6 and had several friends and relatives with other variations of this same car so I know its weaknesses.  The mid to late 70's T/A's were not up to modern performance capabilities but any stretch.  So if they got it working well as a platform then they have really done something cool.  In the end I think its a real cool idea, I always wanted to do this myself but didn't have the time, money or expertise.  Nice job Y1.

That Trans Am is one of my favorite cars.  I always told myself that if I wanted a redone older car, it would be that Trans Am, but I think that the price is ridiculous.  I realize that a lot of work and parts goes into the car, but I could never see spending that much for that car.

To put things in perspective for me, I think of a brand new Z06 Corvette.  It has an LS7, probably handles just as good, cost around $75,000, comes with a factory warranty, not everyone has one, and is brand new.

Do I think the price is too high for me?  Oh Yes.  Do I think the price is too high for what you get?  Probably not.  LS7, DS sub frame, quadralink, coilovers, BAER brakes, interior, the top notch parts list goes on and on.  If you had someone do all the work for you, you might be hard pressed to build this car at under 80K.....IMHO... Anyone ever try to have a custom paint job like this one done?  Depending on your area, that could go north of 15K alone.   And for those of you who think these cars won't handle like today's supercars, you might want to drive one...

I have priced a lot of aftermarket parts including an LS7 engine, Baer brakes, and Moser rear-end. I am just wondering how much of the price is markup. The TV show MuscleCar does restores with a lot of performance parts. I think that they even did one car for Year One. Do you think that the cars that the show does cost that much to restore?

I wanted to add my two cents about the styling changes. I am into the modern retro cars, but I am not really into some of the changes made to the original Trans Am. Am I the only one who hates the headlights? I think that the original wheels look better because the gold paint offsets the lines of the wheels at no matter what angle or what part of the wheel that you look at. You only seem to notice the gold paint on the new wheels if you look at them sideways unless you are looking at the center of the wheel. I would have went with a color other than gold though. I definitely like the original bird on the hood better.

first, for 100k you do not get the ban3 with ls7 etc  etc, im in the process of building a "yearone" bandit, its going to cost less then the ban 1, but with a 700hp ls2, full morrison chis, all the good stuff. is year one ripping people off? NO, sure all the bandit parts cost under 80k, even on a ban 3, but a 60,000+ sq facility that has huge overhead would be losing money to pump out these cars for what you could do it for in your garage.open up a facility like year one has and charging even 100 dollars an hour labour would probably not pay your expenses.if you want to have one for "cheap" you can buy some of the parts from them and do what you can in your own shop. this car seems geared towards people with money who want a turn key car right away and thats who it is marketed towards.im having it done locally because i personally couldnt afford the ban 3. but theres hundreds of people out there who can.

yeah i got a 79 trans am with 114000 miles on it. only had to replace the alternator, spark plugs, spark plug wires and starter... I think that defines quality after 30 years of beating on it. This car sold over 110,000 vehicles in 1979. that means 1 out of 27 people owned a 1979 trans am. If youre talking about Mercedes than this car is not for you and you are not truly a Trans am fan. You need to think about the fact that Yearone is building these from scrap using their hands and taking almost a month to complete only one. They can only make about 50 in 3 years so with that kind of demand all that hard work should pay off for them. It limited production which makes them so valuable. Can you imagine how much they would go on B. Jacksons auction?

If you add it all up its worth it. First of all its endorsed by Burt. Second, the car is fully restored by hand. The average person will take maybe 5 to 10 years to get this done if he or /she has kids and works a regular job. Year One has to pay for all the man hours that it will take to get this car done. Prices start a 129K, but I bet if you had the money you would spend it. I have an 08 GT/CS and I would much rather have a ban3 if I could afford it.

i asked for a price and never received one. reading these post i was shocked. i thought mayby 70k range for price. i saw this thing perform on the speed channel and it made me drool. how much for the poor man version?  i love the car but for that you can get a shelby and put a couple of mods on it and come out cheaper, with the same or more power.

Listen guys, if the price is to high, then dont buy the bandit, build one yourself, if you can. The Bandit comes in three stages and if thats still to much, Im shure that year One can help out and build one to your specs, I think. These guys are pros and if you want something wright, for shure the price is going to high. I have an 80 T/A since 1982. It has 455 motor build to my specs w/a turbo 400. My car easly does 12s but it does not handle that well. The best investment would be to buy Year One upgrade suspention first, then work your way foward. Yaer One , I salute you on your great efforts. Its guys like you that keeps pontiac Alive. Hey, that gives me an idea, If Roger Penske is interested in Saturn, why not Year One joins Roger Penske and also aquire Pontiac or at least Sky and Slostice? Any one on feed back?
