The Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour East sounds like a simple proposition. Start with a few hundred hardcore gearheads and their cars, add a handful of vendors and sponsors, throw in the Hot Rod Magazine and Hot Rod TV staffs, and travel from Fitchburg, Massachusetts, to Panama City Beach, Florida, in nine days. No problem, right?

Now that we’re back from the Tour with a couple of day’s rest under our belts, we can honestly say the Power Tour is one of the most exciting, exhausting, crazy, unpredictable, and yes, fun events in the entire automotive world. Perhaps this is the sleep talking, but we’re ready to go again....well, maybe after a few more nights of rest.

While the official dates for the Power Tour East ran from October 9 to October 17, our odyssey actually began on Thursday, October 7. when we traveled to Detroit to take delivery of our ride for the Tour - a very special 1999 30th Anniversary Trans Am loaned to us by Pontiac. We picked the car up at TDM (Transportation Design and Manufacturing, who specializes in prepping Pontiac-GMC show-cars and one-offs) on Thursday afternoon. What follows is a round-by-round report of our trip. While there truly is no substitute for experience (or cubic inches, for that matter), we’ll try to pass at least some of the flavor of the Power Tour East on to you here
