Goats Invade Atlanta! |

| Was it the first "muscle car"? Ask ten different people and you'll probably get 10 different answers (unless, of course, they're all GTO owners), but there's no disputing the fact that Pontiac's GTO was a driving force in the development of the factory super car in the '60s. And as such, the cars have developed a following that borders on the fanatical. As evidence of this, we offer the 18th Annual GTO Association of America (GTOAA) International Meet held July 1-5 in Atlanta, Georgia.
By all accounts, the show was a sizzling success -- one reason being the constant mid-90s temperatures with no rain all week long. But for those in attendance, it was the tremendous variety of vintage Pontiac muscle filling the Gwinnett Marriott Hotel parking lots that provided the heat. All years were well represented, with '66 and '67 models being the most popular, not surprising since those years represent the high-water mark for GTO production. |

The list of activities was almost as long as the list of cars. Along with the actual show, there was a well-stocked swap meet featuring lug nuts to complete parts cars, and just about everything in between. There were also a variety of seminars on restoration, performance and history; show cars provided by the Pontiac Motor Division; and a nightly "happy hour" hosted by assorted GTOAA chapters. Away from the hotel grounds, attendees could enjoy sight-seeing trips to various Atlanta attractions and shopping excursions to area malls. | ||
