Vanishing Point
by Andrew Stoy
Okay, heres your assignment: Drive a car from Denver to San Francisco in 15 hours. Impossible, you say? All right, lets assume that the car is a hot rod 1970 Dodge Challenger and you just bet someone a handful of Bennies that you could get to San Fran in just that amount of time. Intrigued? Then lets go for a ride...
Ex-cop turned ex-road racer turned car-delivery driver Kowalski sets out on just such a journey in the epic car chase flick Vanishing Point (part #Q933). Hes hopped up on speed (this is the early 70s after all), has a full tank of gas and isnt going to let anyone get in his way. Throughout Colorado, Nevada and Utah he drives the Challenger at breakneck speeds, handily disposing of police motorcycles, police cars and even an E-Type Jaguar, the whole time having eerie flashbacks of his checkered past. Occasionally, an event triggers his memory and we are allowed a glimpse back to the things that have led Kowalski to this moment.
Our driver isnt alone on his trip, either. He has an unusual ally by the name of Super Soul, a blind DJ who guides him away from police roadblocks via cryptic messages broadcast over the Challenger's AM thumbwheel radio. Super Soul and Kowalski seem to share a kind of psychic communication that never really gets explained, but which seems to give them both the energy to keep on going. Along the way, Kowalski also meets up with a variety of wild characters, including a very unusual newlywed couple, a band of snake worshippers-turned-musicians, and a very attractive young lady riding a motorcycle through the desert wearing only her smile. But even with the help of Super Soul and the others, Kowalskis chances of success seem to get slimmer and slimmer.

| Some say It takes a Mopar to catch a Mopar. Apparently that statement doesnt hold true if the Mopar doing the chasing is full of cops and their gear. Even the chopper has a tough time. |
With those three state troopers closing fast, the views got to be better in the other direction... |

From out of nowhere, a mysterious stranger in an E-Type Jaguar tries to give Kowalski a run for his money--and ends up getting run off the road. Judging by the primer on the Jag's front end, this isn't the first time he's lost a fight. |
