We at Next Generation Restoration and Performance are now hard at work on our first two project cars! These cars will be used to show off many of the products found in the Next Generation F-body catalog, and as we screw these cars together, we’ll be documenting everything here on the web site. We’ll also take the cars to the racetrack and beat on ‘em fairly often. Isn’t that the fun of owning cars like these in the first place?
Enough preliminary stuff, let’s talk about the F-bodies.
Project Formula 350 - The starting point for this project is a well-used (over 140K on the clock!), 1988 Firebird Formula 350. This car is representative of the thousands of TPI-engined third-gen cars running around out there; most of which are for sale and are quite inexpensive. Third-gen cars rarely get any respect, but they certainly make great starting points for building fast, fun, fuel-injected performance cars. Since most third-gens are getting a bit tired, this one included, we’ll be going through just about everything on the car, including engine, transmission, suspension and steering, wheels/tires, brakes and paint.
Project Z28 - Our ‘95 Z28 project will take a different path than the ‘88 Formula. The Z28 is a relatively low-mileage car in good shape, and indeed already has some performance equipment on it. Our plans for this car are to increase its performance, and its style, through basic bolt-ons. LT1-powered fourth-gen cars are prime candidates for modification and personalization, and that’s exactly what we’re going to do with this one.
