Muscle car history is littered with examples of certain groups
getting together, taking what is already a good factory package, and tweaking it
for more performance. Names like Royal, Mr. Norm, Yenko, and others, are icons
in American performance car history. There's only one problem with this, though,
and that's the fact that it is indeed history. Past tense.
So, when we ran across the good people at Carl Black Pontiac, and learned of
their very strong interest in performance, we were more than a little surprised.
After all, everyone knows the age of the dealer-modified supercar is long past,
right? But the guys at Carl Black told us about their new division, Carl Black
Performance Vehicles, and tweaked our interest.
It turns out that the Carl Black Pontiac group sells more Ram Air cars than
anyone in the Southeast, which is a hot-bed for F-bodies to start with. And, on
top of that, they began building and selling special versions of the WS-6 TA,
known as the Black Bird, that were modified for more performance. Through some
engine tweaks, exhaust upgrades and a few other mods, the Black Birds were
pumping out 380 horsepower and 400 ft-lbs. of torque.
At this point, it became apparent that the Carl Black group was serious about
their performance cars. And what's more, they invited us to spend some time with
one and let them know what we thought. Well, to make a long story short, we were
so impressed with the vehicle we asked how we could become involved in their
program.
And this is what we've come up with: we are teaming with Carl Black Performance
Vehicles, and building a handful of special cars. They're fast, exciting, rare,
and in our opinion they bring back some of the magic of the good old muscle car
era, while retaining the benefits of modern vehicles. Click on the links below
for specifications on the Year One/Carl Black cars. As always, we're extremely
interested in your opinion, and invite you to call or email with your thoughts
and suggestions.
