A Brand-New Old Race Car.
After more than a few delays during the construction phase (not unusual for any automotive project!), the '69 Trans Am vintage racer made its public debut as part of the Pontiac-GMC Division's display during the 2000 Woodward Dream Cruise. As you can see in the above shot, the finished product is gorgeous! The car was built by Jim Mattison of Pontiac Historic Services, Dave Tiara of Pontiac-GMC Engineering, and Doug Wesch of GM Powertrain, with help from a number of companies and individuals.

The Trans Am looks like a million bucks from any angle, but we must say we're particularly enamored with the rear 3/4 view on the far left. Perhaps the decal on the quarter is clouding our judgment, however. Far from a show-only piece, the car is about to undergo its very first track tests as this is written. Here's hoping it's just as clean and tidy after seeing track duty! A full slate of competition is scheduled for the 2001 vintage racing season, and you can rest assured we will be following the car as its racing exploits unfold.
