Year One/ACC 1968 Camaro RS/SS396 Convertible Pace Car
Year One has teamed with Auto Custom Carpets to restore a 1968 Camaro RS/SS396 convertible Pace Car for the International Motorsports Hall of Fame and Museum in Talladega, Alabama. This very unique car was used to pace various races at the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida, in 1968. The car was donated to the Hall of Fame by the France family, owners of the Daytona Speedway.
Typical of most pace cars, the Camaro sports a number of options: 350-horse 396, Turbo 400 transmission, A/C, power steering, power disc brakes, electric windows, tilt-wheel, deluxe interior and more. The Camaro only shows less than 30,000 miles on the odometer, and although years of sitting outside have weathered the car heavily, it’s complete and original.
The exterior of the car has been signed by a number of drivers from past races. Signatures include notable NASCAR drivers from the late-60s and early-70s, along with a number of foreign drivers. Although the car will be repainted, many of the original panels will be displayed with the driver signatures at the IMHOF Museum.

The light green deluxe interior is dirty and weathered, but in good shape. We will replace those items that won’t clean up.

Again, like the rest of the car, the engine and accessories are heavily weathered but all there. The engine sported all the original hoses and belts, although it did get a new set of plug wires at some point. Restoring the engine compartment will be much easier since all the original brackets and accessories are still on the car.

Inside the trunk, next to the original spare tire, was various pieces of literature from Daytona Speedway. The trunk floor is in great shape.
