Another grudge match that took place more than once at the Bristol Bash was Kevin King and his Innovator 1969 RS/SS Camaro project car vs. Romeo Furio and his Dust ya 1971 Plymouth Duster. Both cars have a list of modifications too long to mention in this article. They got the chance to line up three times over the weekend, and Kevin King in his Innovator car won every time. It seemed Romeo Furio in his Dust ya car had major traction problems, and by the time he hooked up Kevin was long gone. Once Romeo gets his traction problem fixed he will want a rematch to see what his car can really do. Luckily, there wasnt anything at stake on this grudge match. Of course, Chuck Hanson and Joe Elmore from Horsepower TV had to have a grudge match! Last year Chuck and Joe raced each other in new Blackbirds. Chuck ended up winning that grudge match. This year they were racing in late-model Mustang convertibles, and Joe was trying to redeem himself. Everything was looking good for Joe, he won the first race, but Chuck must have been sand bagging because he won the next two races making him the overall winner. Maybe next year Joe! If you liked the old Super Stock cars, you would have loved to be at the Bristol Bash to see Ronnie Sox and Bob Reed run their 1968 Barracuda fastbacks over the weekend. They raced twice against each other, and everybody was in the stands to see these two run because the cars are extremely fast. Ronnie Sox won both of the races. Two of the 409 race cars were also racing at the Bristol Bash, a 1962 Impala and a 1963 Impala. These cars are exciting to watch with quarter mile times in the 10s. When they come off the line their frames are so tweaked it looks like the car is about to roll over. Both cars had multiple chances to run at the event. These beautiful cars were built to replicate race cars from the golden era of racing. Written by Mini-Keith Roberts |
